SPECIAL GUEST DREW MELSON
True North's very own Drew Melson will appear as a featured guest. Drew was a volunteer firefighter for the Ocean City Fire Department in Ocean City, Maryland. During his time as a volunteer firefighter, Drew experienced first-hand the additional dangers that are presented in this line of work, namely the exposure to carcinogens from toxic fumes created as the result of house fires. At one point in his career, Drew came face-to-face with a cancer scare of his own, forcing him to change his procedures when it came to decontamination, and ultimately helping him understand the importance of items like the Decon™ Bag or ideas like the Clean Cab Concept.
ABOUT THE GETTIN' SALTY EXPERIENCE
Gettin Salty & Co. was started by two FDNY members who have loved and served on the job for over 25 years each. We believe in old school honor and tradition. About the generations of firefighters who came before us, and gave everything they had to build values and a way of life in this great calling. It is our privilege and goal to maintain that legacy. Above all, to keep the BROTHERHOOD alive.
TRAPPING HARMFUL CARCINOGENS TO KEEP FIREFIGHTERS PROTECTED
The Decon Bag has a very important job; to protect the firefighter from cancer-causing contaminants left on dirty turnout gear. With its airtight design and abrasion-resistant construction, this roomy bag reliably traps soiled gear and prevents carcinogens on PPE from migrating to the apparatus' cabin until items can be safely laundered. The durability of the 210D coated Nylon combined with welded seams allows the Decon Bag to be washed and hung to dry for re-use.
