True North Gear Is Climate Neutral Recertified with The Change Climate Project

As we celebrate Earth Week, there is no better time to reflect on our commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainability. At True North Gear, we are proud to announce that we have been re-certified as climate neutral, reaffirming our dedication to reducing our carbon footprint and mitigating the impacts of climate change. On Earth Week, we stand firm in our resolve to lead by example and pave the way towards a greener, more sustainable future for generations to come.

We’re Climate Neutral Recertified!

Being climate neutral recertified is a significant achievement for True North Gear, highlighting our ongoing efforts to minimize our environmental impact and operate in a responsible manner. The certification process requires us to measure, reduce, and offset our carbon footprint, ensuring that we are operating in a way that is environmentally responsible and socially conscious. Through meticulous data collection, rigorous analysis, and strategic initiatives, we have successfully reduced our carbon emissions and earned recognition for our commitment to sustainability. In partnering with The Change Climate Project to achieve our recertification, we demonstrate our dedication to transparency, accountability, and continuous improvement in our sustainability efforts.

Commitment to Emission Reduction

Through our network of brands, True North Gear, DragonWear, and The Pack Shack, we remain steadfast in our commitment to further reducing our carbon emissions and advancing our sustainability goals. By setting ambitious targets and implementing innovative strategies, we aim to reduce our emissions by 50% by the year 2023. This commitment builds upon our previous successes and emphasizes our determination to lead by example. Since 2022, True North Gear has already reduced our carbon emissions from 3,317 tonnes to 2,174 tonnes. That’s a total of 1,143 tonnes of carbon we reduced in a year, and it’s only getting better!

We are thrilled to report that our efforts to reduce emissions have already yielded significant results. In 2022, we decreased our carbon scope from 126 tCOe to 67 tCOe, a remarkable achievement that reflects our dedication to sustainability. This reduction was made possible through a combination of factors, including decreased energy usage, more accurate data collection, and the implementation of targeted sustainability initiatives throughout our operations. As we continue to prioritize sustainability in all aspects of our operations, we are confident that we will build upon this momentum and drive further progress towards our emission reduction goals.

The Envira Amazonia Project

Based on the project we selected, our carbon credits will help support The Envira Amazonia Project, located southwest of the Amazon, where deforestation has become a huge threat. They’re working to protect 39,000 hectares of tropical rainforests in Acre, Brazil, home to several threatened and endemic species. Around 50 families live in or near the project area and utilize the forest for survival.

1% for the Planet and American Forest

For four years, we have worked with the nonprofit organization 1% for the Planet. Through them, we have proudly partnered with American Forest to restore and protect forests and their ecosystems, mainly because of wildfires, and provide education on the importance of healthy forests in North America. As an American Forest partner, we pledged to plant 10,000 trees annually across the United States. For every dollar we donate, one new tree is planted across California, Colorado, and Arkansas.

You can also help support our mission! When shopping through our network of brands, be sure to look for the 1% for the Planet tab on product pages to know that your purchase has a purpose. We will donate 1% of sales to the American Forest to help keep our forests healthy and mitigate potential devastation from wildfires.

Being Climate Neutral recertified and setting ambitious emission reduction targets are just the beginning of our journey towards a more sustainable future. We remain dedicated to reducing our carbon footprint, advancing our sustainability objectives, and inspiring positive change in the industry. By working together with our customers and our nonprofit partners, we can benefit from restoring our landscapes for everyone to enjoy. Happy Earth Week!
